Stratford | by Peter Jackson

Police use spike belt to stop speeding car that ends up hitting a cruiser.

A suspect is in police custody after a pursuit of a stolen vehicle involving Stratford Police and Perth OPP ended with deployment of a spike belt.

Stratford Police say they responded to a call at the Mini Mart on Ontario Street early Monday morning.

A van left the scene and police chased it along Ontario Street.

The vehicle hit a stop sign which became embedded in the front end.

The van then hit a cruiser when police tried to box it in on Lorne Avenue.

Perth OPP stopped the van on Line 32 just west of Stratford where the arrest was made.

The vehicle was reported stolen in Waterloo.
