The Walkerton Hawks stretched their lead in the Western Junior C Hockey League to five points over second-place Hanover Saturday with a 5-2 win over the Goderich Sailors.
Eric Lekun added to his league-lead in scoring with three goals and one assist for Walkerton.
Drew Davidson scored one goal and added an assist in the victory while Haden Campbell also scored.
Curtis Taylor responded with a goal and an assist for the Sailors -- with Brandon Priestap scoring one and Josh Martel adding an assist.
Sailors' Head Coach Mark Uniac says the last three games have seen marked improvements for his young squad which has yet to register its first win.
He believes work in practice on skating the puck out of the defensive zone instead of dumping it out is paying off.
Uniac feels the Sailors' performance in the offensive zone has improved and helped keep the score relatively close against a Walkerton team that boasts a stingy defence.
The Sailors travel to Kincardine Sunday for a 4pm game against the Bulldogs at the Davidson.
Walkerton hosts Hanover next Saturday night.
In other Western Junior C play Saturday, Brendan Nicholson scored two goals including the game-winner as Mitchell got by Hanover 4-3.
Nathan Woodard's two goals included the game-winner in Mount Forest where the Patriots downed Wingham 5-3.
