A large condo development planned for downtown Collingwood will have to stay in the Heritage District.
The developer of the Admiral Collingwood Place project at Hume and Hurontario Streets wanted the property removed so the building could be six storeys instead of the maximum three allowed in the district.
But Council voted unanimously on Monday night to accept two recommendations from the Heritage Committee.
One is to leave the property in the Heritage District.
The other is to work with the committee and the developer on possible changes to the Heritage Conservation by-law specific to this project.
If this is the route council takes, there will be a public meeting and there could be a new by-law by mid January.
