No Sightings of Big Canoe

Owen Sound | by Kevin Bernard

Chi Cheemaun dry docked for its five year hull inspection and servicing.

You may be wondering where the Chi Cheemaun is ?

It is usually docked in the Owen Sound harbour for the winter by now, but is no where to be seen.

Owen Sound Transportation Company spokesperson Susan Schrempf tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the 'Big Canoe' is in Thunder Bay right now.

It is going into dry dock for its five year hull inspection and servicing.

Schrempf says that servicing usually takes about four weeks, so the Chi Cheemaun should be in the Scenic City around the 15th of December.

It's a disappointment for many who like to ride the final trip in the ferry from Tobermory to Owen Sound in the fall.

Meanwhile, Schrempf says the Chi Cheemaun saw a drop of about four per cent in ridership this year.

She says that was mainly because of bad weather in May, and they then lost a full day of service in October because of the weather.

As far as 2012 is concerned, she doesn't see any significant price changes to ride from Tobermory to South Baymouth.
