Tree Planting in Goderich

Goderich | by Dianne Colgan

Volunteers spread out around Goderich to plant trees today.

The first volunteer tree planting goes in Goderich today.

Clean-up Hub organizer Luke Elliott says they've got eight homes affected by the tornado taking a variety of different trees.

Elliott says they've got volunteers ready to manually dig holes for some pretty big trees -- most of them weigh about 300 pounds and are ten feet tall.

He says the group has had lots of interest from people wanting to donate trees, but for this first round of planting they're able to use money from the EdgeFund to buy trees at cost.

Elliott says he's also heard from people who don't use facebook but want to be involved with the group -- so they're maintaining two community information boards at the Goderich Library and Legion.

He says their tree registry was slow to start but as the word has gotten out, the group is getting lots of inquiries and registrants who want to be involved.

You can register at the East Street Station, call 211 for more information or email goderichtrees@gmail.com
