Mom, Infants Escape House Fire

Port Elgin | by Daryl Morris

A Port Elgin mother gets her two babies to safety after attic catches fire

A Port Elgin mom and her two infant children are safe after escaping a fire at their home.

Saugeen Shores Fire Chief Phil Eagleson tells Bayshore Broadcasting News fire crews were called out just after 4 PM Monday, to a residence on Green Street, between Wellington and Hilker.

Eagleson says the fire started in the attic of the home, but crews responded quickly enough to stop the flames from spreading any further.

A mother was home at the time with her two babies -- one 6 months old, and the other 16 months -- but managed to get everybody out of the home safely and without injury.

Eagleson says damage is pegged at 60 thousand dollars, and the cause is still under investigation, although he believes it will be linked to an electrical issue.
