Solar Program A Success

Collingwood | by Catherine Thompson

A new solar initiative launched last summer is just passed the halfway point.

A new solar initiative launched in our area in August is just passed the halfway point.

Collus President and CEO, Ed Houghton, says he had approval for a thousand attic solar roof vents and more than half have been snapped up by homeowners.

He's recommending two vents per home.

Houghton says he's hoping to get a couple hundred more signed up in Collingwood.

In Wasaga Beach, he says there are more people wanting the vents then the 50 available and it's up to Wasaga Distribution to decide what to do.

He reminds us there's no cost for the panels themselves, the home owner just has to pay the one hundred dollar installation fee and agree to allow their hydro consumption to be monitored.

Houghton adds the solar vents mean fewer kilowatt hours used, but also a longer life for your roof shingles.

The number to call to be part of this program is 1-866-337-8089.
