Winterhawks Win Opener

Saugeen Shores | by John Divinski

Saugeen Shores Winterhawks beat Walkerton Capitals 6-2 on opening night.

The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks have won the first game of its regular Senior "AA" season.

They defeated the Walkerton Capitals 6-2 at the Plex on Friday night.

Matt Turcotte scored two goals and had an assist and was named player of the game.

He says it was easy scoring when he has players such as Steve Shields and Blake Underwood on his line.

New head coach Jim Grieve says he was happy with the team's first outing but plans to work on the power play at the next practice saying the squad on capitalized on 25 per cent of their chances.

Meanwhile, the head coach of the Capitals Ryan Enright is not concerned with his team's "0 and 2" start so far this season.

Enright says it's early and you can almost treat the first few games as exhibition games since they don't have an exhibition season.

He expects better things from the squad when they play Shallow Lake at 6:30 PM tonight.

The Winterhawks don't play until next Friday when they host those same Shallow Lake Crushers.

Game time at the Plex is 8:30 PM.
