Saugeen Shores is getting a new Canadian Tire outlet.
A ground-breaking ceremony was held at the new site in front of the Wal Mart store in south Port Elgin.
Local Canadian Tire Dealer Mike Mowbray says the 28 thousand square foot building, along with a six thousand square foot garden centre will cost over five million dollars to complete.
In addition, there will be a Canadian Tire gas bar and a Tim Horton's drive-thru service as well.
Mowbray says in the summertime they plan to double their labour force to over 50 employees.
Regional Vice President-Store Support, Bob Emond says they hope to have a grand opening of the new outlet during the May 24th holiday weekend next year.
Emond says construction of the actual building should be completed by mid-to-late February.
After that employees will start merchandising and erecting the interior.
Emond says Canadian Tire has been looking at Saugeen Shores for some time and feel the timing is right at this point for the big build.
He also says despite the fact that in some cases Wal Mart and Canadian Tire sell the same type of products they're not concerned.
Emond says they look at Wal Mart as specializing in groceries and clothing whereas Canadian Tire will focus on automotive and garden services.
