The Owen Sound Senior Lacrosse Club staged their year end awards day on Saturday.
Rob Milnes was selected as the Most Valuable Player for the Woodsmen who finished second to Norwood in the regular season, and lost the Championship series to Six Nations in 6 games.
The award winners however, weren't the only " major " announcements on the day.
First, President Randy Jackson confirmed that Quantum Properties will be returning as the club's major sponsor.
Last year, in a transitional year on the floor & off, Quantum Properties stepped into a sponsorship void and were the major sponsors of the club.
Furthermore, Owen Sound will no longer be known as the " Woodsmen " switching instead to be known as the " NorthStars " in a tribute to Senior Lacrosse in Owen Sound dating back to the late 60's.
The NorthStars operated from 1967 to 1995, winning the Presidents Cup as Canadian Champions, 4 times.
The Woodsmen were established in 2001 and have operated for the past 11 seasons in Owen Sound, winning 7 Ontario Senior Lacrosse Championships and taking the Presidents Cup in back to back years in 2008 & again in 2009.
The name change needs to be approved by the Senior Lacrosse Council, but that's not expected to be an ordeal.
