Hike for Humanity Today

Hanover | by Daryl Morris

A fundraiser is planned for Habitat for Humanity, with 5k runs on Saturday.

Hanover Park will be full of walkers, runners, and hikers on Saturday.

Krista McNamara, a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, says The Co-operators are sponsoring a 5K Hike for Humanity.

McNamara says they chose to hold the run in Hanover, as the money raised will go toward the eight-unit project that will be built in Hanover in 2012.

The two separate four-plexes will house Habitat families.

McNamara says it's easy for anybody to take part in the hike -- as you can walk, run, or even push your baby stroller through the route.

All they're asking is for a minimum 20 dollar pledge, which McNamara says you can pay yourself, or collect from donors.

And there is some extra incentive -- she says prizes have been donated by local businesses for top finisher, top fund raiser, and for door prizes after the event.

The hike begins at 9 AM on Saturday, with registration starting at 7 AM at the Hanover Park Pavilion.
