Cheers, Jeers Greet Candidates

Owen Sound | by Jon Meyer

Sometimes boisterous debate for Bruce Grey Owen Sound election candidates.

The seven candidates hoping to replace MPP Bill Murdoch at Queens Park in the riding of Bruce Grey Owen Sound took part in a debate in Owen Sound Wednesday night.

The Owen Sound and District Chamber of Commerce hosted the all candidates debate at the Bayshore Community Centre.

The packed house certainly reacted when Liberal Candidate Kevin Eccles stood up for his party's record on education and defended the Green Energy Act.

However, perhaps the largest reaction from the crowd came when PC candidate Bill Walker stated that Bruce Power is private and there's no money from the government going into the nuclear operator.

Those two candidates provided most of the entertainment, whether that be negative or positive.

Independent Candidate Shane Jolley's suggestion to manufacture solar glass in the region garnered a lot of positive attention from the audience.

Chamber President Joanne Horton was pleased with the open format and thought for the most part it stayed a respectful debate.

She thought giving the candidates three minutes to rebut made for a far more interesting debate.
