Officials with the Collingwood fair are hoping today's day off school won't mean an empty fairground for their education programs.
Each year, as many as 90 buses full of students from schools in Wasaga Beach, Collingwood and Clearview arrive for educational activities on the Friday of the Great Northern Exhibition.
This year, though, the school board introduced a professional development day, which means a day off classes.
The education program is still being offered, with free admission for children and a free bus service to the fairgrounds from Collingwood and Wasaga Beach.
The school board says it's likely to keep the PD day on the same date, so fair officials say they'll review attendance figures and decide whether to change the date of the fair in the years to come, to be sure the education program can continue.
