Goderich municipal officials accompanied Huron Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell and Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan on a tour of Courthouse Square and the downtown core,.
Duncan -- who represents a Windsor-area riding -- had spent many summers in Port Elgin as a youth, and is familiar with the area.
Duncan says that while he was taken back by the devastation he saw on Wednesday, he is impressed with the business community's resiliency.
Duncan say the five million dollars in provincial ODRAP funding is a "down-payment" to the community.
He says the Liberals have promised to create a Southwestern Ontario Economic Development Fund.
The Finance Minister suspects Goderich would be among the first beneficiaries of such a fund, should the Grits be re-elected October 6th.
Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell is a former small business owner.
Mitchell believes the numbers of businesses already open following the tornado is impressive.
She says the province-wide response to the disaster shows Ontario itself is a tightly knit community.
