Farmers Market Finds Home

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Despite tornado, Farmers Market will continue in new location on weekend.

Despite damage caused by the August 21st tornado the weekend farmers' market and flea market have managed to find an alternate location in downtown Goderich.

Up till the day of the storm the summer weekend events had been held in Courthouse Square.

Now they're being held on the former Evans property across Kingston Street from the Rexall drug store.

Goderich Downtown BIA member Cheryl Dunn tells us the events resumed quickly but it's taken residents a while to respond to the change in location.

Not as many people attended last weekend and Dunn hopes to get the word out in time in an effort to encourage better attendance.

She believes social media is helping to potentially boost attendance this weekend.

Dunn says websites like Facebook helped get the word out very quickly and enhanced the word of mouth that was already going around town about the new location.

She credits 104.9 the Beach for its role in keeping residents informed about the change in the market location.

Most of the vendors have returned to take part in the relocated farmers and flea markets.

Dunn mentions that the vendors are a close-knit community who also want to share in the rebuilding experience.

The farmers market is held Saturdays from 8 AM till 1 PM and the flea market goes from 8 AM till 3 PM Sunday at the former Evans property on Kingston Street across from the Rexall drug store.
