CRA Considers Taxpayer Relief

The Canada Revenue Agency has a special program for those affected by disaster

The taxman has a heart.

Minister of Revenue Gail Shea is letting us know that the Canada Revenue Agency has taxpayer relief provisions available to those unable to meet their tax obligations due to natural disasters such as the Goderich tornado, or Hurricane Irene.

The Canada Revenue Agency may waive or cancel interest or penalties owing if an individual or business is unable to meet a payment deadline due to natural disaster.

You must fill out form RC4288, "Request for Taxpayer Relief."

Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Individuals may call 1-800-959-8281. Business owners and the self-employed should call 1-800-959-5525.
