Work Continues to Restart Sifto

Goderich | by Dianne Colgan

Still no word on when employees can get back to work.

Work continues to get the Sifto Salt Mine back up and running in Goderich.

Director of Corporate Engineering Roland Howe says they lost a lot of transformation capacity after the tornado, but the lines are going in and the power systems are starting to come together.

Howe says while the damage up top is another story, there's no damage at all to the actual mine and they're continuing to run safety checks on their equipment.

He says there's a lot of progress being made but their main concern continues to be safety before they let any work start up again in the mine.

Howe says this pause in work does put them off-schedule in production but they'll work hard to get back to where they need to be when workers are allowed in.

The evaporator plant is also still in the midst of safety checks as they want to make sure all the equipment is running properly before letting people back in.

Mine Employees can call 1-877-766-1823 and plant employees can call 1-877-893-0897 for information from the company.

They've also set up two websites for employees to use, www.goderichmine.ca and www.goderichplant.ca
