Volunteer Meet-Up

Goderich | by Dianne Colgan

Grassroots organization holds infor meeting on how volunteers can help after tornado.

The organizer of an online volunteer clean-up group created after the tornado is hoping for a good turn-out at a public meeting tonight.

Luke Elliott started the facebook group 'Goderich Tornado Clean-Up Hub' and says they're hoping to get back down to business after temporarily shutting down earlier this week.

Elliott says there was some concern about where the liability lies if anyone gets hurt and also regarding safety equipment.

He says the state of emergency gives the town jurisdiction over work being done on private property and fines could be given out for workplace safety hazards.

Elliott says a face-to-face meeting will allow them a good opportunity to get organized for an upcoming clean-up session in Benmiller.

He says several officials with the town have been offering their thanks for what the group has accomplished and continues to do.

Elliott says anyone who wants to be involved with the group can come out for the meeting or join the facebook group -- and anyone who still needs help can also join to see what the group can do.

The meeting tonight goes at the Signal Star ball diamond at 7 PM.
