Fire Hall Land Secured

Wasaga Beach | by Catherine Thompson

Another step towards a new fire hall in Wasaga Beach.

Another step towards a new fire hall in Wasaga Beach.

Council has voted 5 to 2 in favour of a lease agreement with Wasaga Distribution for land on River Road West.

One of the councillors who voted against the lease is Morley Bercovitch.

During the meeting he said he couldn't support the by-law to authorize the agreement when other options for land were never fully explored.

Council also voted to exempt the fire hall from municipal, county and school board taxes.

Bercovitch says that just makes him question how other options would have been affected by this move.

The councillor declined comment on tape.

The budget for the new fire hall is 3.125 million dollars and plans are still being worked on to meet that amount.

The fire chief has told us he hopes the fire hall can be open by next spring or summer.
