Golfing for Tornado Victims

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Fundraising golf tournament planned for September to help victims of tornado.

Even more generosity will flow Goderich's way as area golfers have fun while helping our community recover from last Sunday's tornado.

A fundraising tournament is being planned in the Clinton area next month and organizer Christie McDonald says a relatively modest entry fee gets you a lot.

The 100-dollar fee guarantees you an 18-hole round of golf, plus lunch, a steak dinner and goodie-bag among other things.

McDonald says the fundraising target is ambitious.

She hopes to bring in anywhere from 10-thousand to 20-thousand dollars for tornado relief.

This is the third such golf event she has put together -- 10-thousand dollars was raised for cystic fibrosis research in 2009 and last year they raised 63-hundred dollars for research into mental illness.

McDonald says the tournament has garnered a high-profile local sponsor already.

A new car from Hyundai of Goderich goes to any golfer fortunate enough to pot a hole-in-one.

The tournament will be held at the Woodlands Golf Club on September 24th.
