The provincial NDP candidate in Simcoe Grey says he is just like every other resident.
David Matthews of Wasaga Beach was selected to be the NDP's candidate last week.
Matthews is a former steam fitter with Ontario Hydro, who was laid off and was ineligible for employment insurance.
Before entering the race, Matthews did some research and deduced that the cost of living had reached a point where 40 thousand dollars was just enough for a family of four to survive.
Matthews says he was inspired to run for office after reading about how the NDP could help struggling families.
Matthews says he received that information after meeting with the NDP's federal candidate for Simcoe Grey, Katy Austin, in May.
Since then, Matthews has been learning on the run and hopes to use his experiences with unemployment and financial troubles to help others in a similar situation.
The provincial election is set for Thursday, October 6th.
