Fine for Plover Harassment

Wasaga Beach | by Mariane McLeod

Dog at beach nets man a fine of one thousand dollars.

A Wasaga Beach man has a hefty fine to pay for an incident involving the Piping Plovers at Beach Area One.

The man has to pay a thousand dollars after being convicted in court of allowing his dog to go off leash at Beach One where there were signs posted that this wasn't allowed.

Plover volunteers apparently saw the dog go in the protective enclosure and chase the birds around.

None of the Piping Plovers was hurt in the incident.

The case was heard in Barrie on August 15th.
