The Goderich Sailors hit the ice in Kincardine Thursday for the first of four pre-season games in the Western Junior C Hockey League.
Much has taken place off the ice during the summer including the recent appointment of Mark Uniac as Sailors head coach.
General-manager Kalen Carroll predicts fans will see a different team this season and uses Uniac's former club -- the Senior AA Monkton Wildcats -- as an example.
Within just a few seasons Uniac turned Monkton from a cellar-dweller to a finalist that lost to Petrolia by one goal in Game Seven of last season's WOAA Senior finals.
Carroll says the Sailors have gotten over a challenging time.
He says now that a head coach and volunteers are in place -- excitement is replacing the stress many Sailors officials experienced since the end of last season.
Carroll says the appointment of Uniac helps him do his own job better.
Saying "it's not rocket science" Carroll says being both head coach and general manager doesn't allow anyone to do either job well.
The Sailors and Bulldogs face off at the Davidson Centre Thursday at 7:30 PM.
Kincardine visits the Sailors at MRC Sunday at 2:30 PM.
