Relay for Life Kincardine

Kincardine | by Kevin Bernard

Hundreds expected to take part in the 12 hour Relay for Life in Kincardine tonight.

Kincardine and area residents are joining together tonight, to pick a fight with cancer.

For one night, hundreds of people will come together at the Davidson Centre for the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life.

The Kincardine Relay for Life is on tonight from 7 PM until 7 AM on Saturday.

The overnight event will symbolize that cancer doesn't sleep, and teams will set up tent sites and take turns walking the track.

But Relay is more than just a fundraiser.

It’s a 12-hour overnight non-competitive event to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer and fight back against this disease.

The funds raised help support cancer research, programs and support services for cancer patients and their families.

Cancer survivors and those currently battling are encouraged to register for the Survivors’ Victory Lap.

This is part of the Opening Ceremony at 7 pm and considered by many to be one of the highlights of the event.

Another special Relay For Life moment will take place at dusk when hundreds of luminaries will light up the night.

Each luminary bears the name of a cancer survivor or someone who has lost their battle with cancer.

Luminaries are 5 dollars each and can be purchased at Scotiabank in Kincardine, online at www.relayforlife.ca/kincardine or at the event.
