Hockey Money for Rec Centre

Owen Sound | by Jon Meyer

Bruce Power donates 15 thousand dollars for Rec Centre Hockey Challenge.

Bruce Power is the title sponsor for this September's Rec Centre Hockey Challenge.

Bruce Power Head of Corporate Affairs James Scongack handed a 15 thousand dollar check over to the fundraising committee on Wednesday at the Rec Centre site.

The Rec Hockey Challenge on September 17th is a fundraiser for the new Regional Rec Centre in Owen Sound.

Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller says there's a chance he could strap on the pads and play net for a period.

Miller is part of the reason the game is happening.

Miller says there's a chance former Maple Leaf Wendel Clark will join other NHL alumni like former Owen Sound Plater and Detroit Red Wing Kirk Maltby and former Montreal Canadiens Coach and now Senator Jacques Lamarre.

Co-Chair of the Rec Centre Fundraising Campaign Sonya Mount says with the game being so affordable they hope to sell out the Bayshore Community Centre.

The fundraising target is 5 million dollars and Mount says they're 70 per cent there.

According to Mount, construction work is on time and right on budget.
