Ireland New Coach

The Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League introduced Greg Ireland as their new head coach this afternoon.

Ireland replaces Mark Reeds who took the Attack to their first ever OHL Championship last year and then departed to join Paul MacLean's staff with the Ottawa senators of the National Hockey League

The Attack also unveiled their new logo & uniforms for the upcoming season.



Maidens & Smith Make Under 18

Two Owen Sound Attack forwards, Jarrod Maidens & Gemel Smith, were selected to play for Canada's Under 18 entry at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament which begins next week in Slovakia & in the Czech Republic.

Maidens, the Attack first round selection in 2010 ( # 4 overall), scored the OHL Championship winning goal at Mississauga in Game 7 against St Mike's on May 15th.

Smith, a 6th round selection of the Attack, scored 8 times in his underage season plus added a shootout winner at Barrie.


The Owen Sound Attack weren't the only team to make a coaching alteration today

In Windsor, Bob Boughner is returning to coach the Spitfires after spending last year as an assistant with the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL.



Crushers Name Selkirk Coach

The Shallow Lake Crushers of the WOAA Senior A Hockey League have announced  DJ Selkirk is their new head coach. 

Selkirk, who played Junior & Senior Hockey has coached both Minor Hockey and assisted with the Walkerton Hawks Junior C Club.

The Crushers will open their training camp at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center in Owen Sound on September 8th.

Bluewater Fastball League

Game time is 8:30 at Lakeview Park.

Last night in Owen Sound, the Selects swept the Chepstow Aces 5-2 & 7-3 in a doubleheader at Duncan McLellan park


The Owen Sound Verge Investment Selects will host the Canadian Men's Fastball Championship Tournament.

The event begins Sunday August 28th and runs to Sunday September 4th at Duncan McLellan Park



Desboro Tournament

The annual Desboro Fastball Tournament is August 12th to 14th

Among the highlights of the tournament is the Desboro Minor Ball all-you-can-eat Breakfast on Sunday August 14th at the Desboro Arena.

The breakfast runs from 8 am to noon and costs $ 8 for adults & $ 4 for kids 12 years of age & under

Desboro will host Mildmay tonight at 8:30 and then travel to Guelph this weekend for the Provincial Women's Softball Association " C " Division playdowns
