Ireland Considering Attack Offer

The Ontario Hockey League Champion Owen Sound Attack have offered their Head Coaching position to Greg Ireland.

The 46 year old Ireland was offered the position over the weekend after another candidate, Dave Barr, accepted the Assistant Coaching position with the New Jersey devils in the NHL.

Ireland, who has coached in the American Hockey League at San Antonio and Grand Rapids is said to be considering the Attack offer, and it's believed he will accept the position in short order.

Mark Reeds who guided Owen Sound to the Ontario Hockey League Championship last season, created the coaching vacancy when he was hired as an assistant coach in Ottawa by the Senators of the NHL.

Attack General Manager Dale DeGray would neither confirm nor deny that Ireland had been offered the Head Coaching position with the Owen Sound club.

Last year's Assistant Coach, Terry Virtue, was also on the Attack shortlist with Barr & Ireland.

Virtue has time remaining on his Attack contract and thus it's anticipated he'll stay in Owen Sound, conceivably with elevated responsibilities.

In 2005/06, Virtue played for Greg Ireland briefly at Grand Rapids in the A.H.L.
