Ireland Offered Attack Job

Owen Sound | by Fred Wallace

DeGray Elects Not To Confirm Nor Deny

The Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League have offered their Head Coaching position to Greg Ireland.

The 46 year old Ireland, who recently had stints as a Head Coach in the American Hockey League at San Antonio & at Grand Rapids, was offered the position over the weekend.

He was on a shortlist with Dave Barr & current Attack Assistant Coach Terry Virtue, but Barr was scratched for the search when he accepted a position to be an assistant to Peter DeBoer with the New Jersey Devils

Currently, it's believed Ireland is considering the Attack offer, and it's also believed he will accept the position in short order

Ireland would replace Mark Reeds who guided Owen Sound to the Ontario Hockey League Championship last season and then moved onto become an Assistant Coach with the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League.

When contacted by Bayshore Broadcasting, Attack General Manager Dale DeGray elected not to confirm, nor deny, the Head Coaching offer had been offered to Ireland

If Ireland accepts, Terry Virtue is expected to remain with Attack, conceivably with elevated responsibilities.

In 2005/06, Virtue played for Greg Ireland briefly at Grand Rapids in the A.H.L.
