Marine Heritage Festival

Southampton | by Manny Paiva

Plans set for the first annual Marine Heritage Festival in Southampton next weekend.

As if Southampton isn't a busy enough on the Civic Holiday Weekend, it is expected to be packed with people next weekend.

The Propeller Club and the Southampton Marine Heritage Society are hosting the first annual Marine Heritage Festival (July 29,30,31).

Spokesperson Dave Wenn says they wanted to kick off the event by marking the 10th anniversary of boat tours to Chantry Island.

Wenn says since tours began -- over 12 thousand visitors have made the trek to Chantry Island.

He says his group sees the Marine Heritage Festival as a family affair to celebrate the marine history in the oldest port on the Bruce coast.

The festival will include tours of Chantry Island plus walking tours on the mainland.

Organizers also hope to have boat displays -- both on land and on the water -- along with the usual entertainment and food.

Wenn hopes the Marine Heritage Festival becomes an annual event.
