Officials with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care are interested in talking to Grey Bruce Health Services about rural health care in Markdale.
GBHS President and CEO Maureen Solecki says they will have a teleconference on Friday with the Ministry's capital spending branch.
Solecki tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they want feedback on their plans for a rural health centre in Markdale.
Solecki says the plan combines the hospital functions and the community health centre which is a way of delivering primary care in one building.
She says it will be located on the site of the Grey Gables long term care facility in Markdale.
Solecki says they've been working on the new Markdale Hospital for some time and this latest effort includes the health care centre right into the hospital.
Solecki estimates they are about half way through a long planning process for the new hospital in Markdale.
She acknowledged the great work the community had done to raise its part of the money and now they're meeting provincial requests to see how the new health centre and a new hospital could be combined in one building.
The local residents have raised an astounding 13 million dollars for the new hospital and are now waiting for the province to kick in the rest for the facility.
The wait has been going on for several years.
