Festivals, Flea Markets Share Space

Goderich | by Travis Pedwell

Arts and Crafts Festival will give up space to keep the farmers and flea markets running.

There is some confusion over usage of the square between two events going on this summer in Goderich.

Chair of the Farmer and Flea Markets Peter Lane tells Bayshore Broadcasting News on July 10th the Arts and Crafts festival will be taking place at the same time as the Flea Market.

Lane says the main concern is festivals are wanting to take up the space they use throughout the summer for their markets.

Lane's biggest concern is drawing people down to the square.

He says although the arts and crafts event is great - it doesn't draw people to the square like the flea and farmer's market.

Lane doesn't want people to think the BIA is against the arts festival.

He says they just want their space and keep vendors happy.

Lane came to council wanting 15 per cent of the square for the July 15th arts and crafts show.

He says they wanted to use the area they presently use every Saturday and Sunday.

He notes Council decided the farmer and flea markets will use South Street, and the area in between Kingston and Hamilton Street.

He says unfortunately they won't be able to use Montreal Street.

When asked if he's happy with the decision Lane says he'll live by the rules.

He adds at least they are able to run the farmers market.
