Chief For A Day

Ethan DeJong won Chief for a Day competition with Owen Sound Police.

A Grade 5 student has had the experience of a life-time, after being sworn in as Chief of Police for the day.

Ethan deJong from Dufferin School, was sworn in Wednesday as part of the Owen Sound Police Service’s third annual Chief for a Day competition.

The competition was open to grade five students of  all Owen Sound schools.

Ethan’s winning essay on the topic "What would you say to someone younger than you to help them stay away from drugs?" was selected from all entries.

As Chief for a Day, Ethan got to spend a day with Owen Sound Police and was able to get an insight into a day in the life of a police officer.

He was given a tour of the police building, court building and city as well as participating and learning about different aspects of policing, including training and forensic identification.

Ethan’s class will also be treated to a pizza party.
