Green Sweep in Owen Sound

West Hill students will clean up parts of Owen Sound today.


West Hill Secondary School in Owen Sound and the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority are teaming up for "Operation Green Sweep".

This year marks the 9th annual clean up.

Students and teachers will start at West Hill and make there way around the school cleaning the streets.

Chris Hachey at Grey Sauble Conservation says there are approximately 175 students from Grades 9 to 12 participating in the operation this year.

West rocks conservation area is the main area for the clean up and has been since the sweep started.

Streets within 15 minutes of the school will also been cleaned.

Hachey says the City Of Owen Sound will help by providing garbage bags and pick up locations.

Community sponsors will be supplying gloves and other safety supplies as well as lunch for the volunteers.

Operation Green Sweep will be held from 9 AM to 10 AM today.
