Summer Company for Students

Grey Bruce | by James Greensmith

Teens and young adults have a chance to be their own boss this summer.

The Business Enterprise Centre in Owen Sound and Area is offering students the opportunity to be their own boss this summer.

The "Summer Company 2011" program is  for full-time students aged 15 to 29 who have a business plan they want to put in place.

Allison King -- the Youth Program Coordinator -- says it's a great opportunity for students who want to explore their own business ventures.

King says students will receive hands on training and mentorship throughout the summer as they grow their business.

Students must follow a number of guidelines -- including to submit a full business plan online, and the plan must be an original idea.

King says the program includes financial awards of up to three thousand dollars-- half of which is for start up costs, while the other half is awarded after the summer.

King says the summer company program has lead to a number of students finding success -- including one last year who opened a bee-keeping business and took some of her products to the CNE in Toronto.
