Compost Woes

Saugeen Shores | by John Divinski

Dumping at the compost site in Southampton is the cause of some issues.

Although the compost site, next to the landfill site in Southampton is being visited by many, some are leaving behind unwelcome calling cards.

Saugeen Shores Councillor Diane Huber says people are leaving behind waste that they don't want to pay for to drop off at the landfill site.

Huber says garbage, tree stumps and brush have been found in the compost side.

She says perhaps a gate should be put up to stop what she calls after-hours deliveries.

Huber says it's not a major problem now but it could grow into one.

Meanwhile, Director of Public Works Stuart Doyle agrees that perhaps something should be done to cut down on the unusable garbage that is being left behind at the site.
