Students Meet David Suzuki

Stratford | by Travis Pedwell

Almost 700 students head to Stratford to talk about environmental sustainability.

Many Avon Maitland District School Board students were in for quite the surprise on Tuesday morning.

Doctor David Suzuki was at the Stratford Northwestern Secondary School to talk about what students can do to be environmentally responsible.

AMDSB Trustee Colleen Schenk was one of those in attendance.

Schenk tells Bayshore Broadcasting News over 700 Avon Maitland School students from all across the region got to meet him.

She says they all got the opportunity to talk about the environment and about science related topics.

Schenk says students were extremely excited.

She notes they gave Suzuki a standing ovation and when he was talking you could even hear a pin drop it was so quiet.

Schenk tells us there was a lot to take in from Suzuki.

She says something she enjoyed listening to was how Suzuki first started out in Canada.

Schenk notes Suzuki being detained in an internment camp really hit home.

She adds listening to him talk about global warming was also an interesting topic.
