Chicago had to sweat it out after dropping a 4-3 decision to Detroit. They’ll take on the top-seeded Vancouver Canucks when the playoffs get underway on Wednesday.
O-H-L playoff action has the Sudbury Wolves struggling with Mississauga. After sweeping Ottawa in 4 straight, the Wolves are down 2-nothing in the series after a 3-2 loss to the Majors last night. Elsewhere, Saginaw defeated Windsor in overtime 5-4 to even their series at 1 game apiece. Tonight, Plymouth visits Owen Sound while Oshawa’s in St. Catharines with the Niagara IceDogs.
And the Alliston Hornets have jumped out to an early 2-nothing series lead. The Hornets beat the Picton Pirates 3-1 last night in O-H-A Junior ‘C’ playoff action. Game 3 goes Tuesday night at Alliston’s New Tec Rec Centre.
In Major League Baseball, the L-A Angels took 2-of-3 from their weekend set with the Toronto Blue Jays. L-A starter Jered Weaver fanned a career-high 15 batter as part of a 3-1 triumph over the Jays. Toronto opens a series in Seattle tonight.
The Toronto Raptors raced out to a big lead before hanging on for a 99-92 victory over New Jersey. That snapped the Raptors’ 3-game losing streak.
Charl Schwartzel needs to make room in his closet for a green jacket. The 26-year-old South African closed with a 6-under-par 66 to win the Masters by two shots over Jason Day and Adam Scott. He finished 14-under in winning his first major championship.
The climb back to the top of the curling world was a long one for Jeff Stoughton. The Canadian skip won his second men's world curling title after defeating Scotland 6-5 in the final in Regina. Stoughton's other men's world curling crown came 15 years ago in Hamilton.
