The Chair of the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board is receiving a national award for his contribution to Catholic education.
Norm Bethune has been named the recipient of this year's Justice James D. Higgins Award.
This is the highest honour provided by the Canadian Catholic Schools Trustees’ Association.
Bethune was selected from Catholic trustees across Canada.
Director of Education Bruce MacPherson put Bethune's name forward.
MacPherson says Bethune has spent the last 40 odd years of his life dedicated to Catholic education -- first as a teacher, then a principal and now a trustee.
MacPherson says Bethune's commitment to Catholic education and students as a whole made him a prime candidate.
Bethune calls the award very humbling and says he is deeply honoured to receive it.
He credits his love of Catholic education to his parents as well as the nuns who taught him school as a child.
Bethune will be traveling to Regina this June with his family to receive the Justice James D. Higgins award at the Canadian Catholic Schools Trustees‘ Association annual meeting.
