Moving Into New Home

Blue Mountains | by Jon Meyer

New Blue Mountains municipal office almost complete, but no decision on old office.

Construction work at Blue Mountains new Town Hall should be complete by the end of March.

Mayor Ellen Anderson says construction of the over five million dollar building is moving along on schedule and she expects town staff will be moving into the building in April.

The new Town Hall has been designed and constructed to a LEED Gold Certification Level.

The building has geothermal cooling and heating systems and 90 per cent of the above ground level portion of the Town Hall will receive natural light.

And the landscaping elements require no irrigation.

Anderson says the green building will help lower energy costs and save taxpayer dollars.

As for the old Town Hall, Anderson says the new council hasn't made a decision as to demolish it or not.

The previous council planned to tear down the building but recently there's been interest expressed by some residents to rent it out.

Anderson says it's a decision the new council will make in the coming months.
