Beach Carnivals May End

Saugeen Shores | by Michael McDonald

Saugeen Shores is looking for groups to continue beach carnivals or they will end.

The Town of Saugeen Shores is making a final call for community organizations to operate beach carnivals this summer.

Summer beach carnivals are in danger of not running for the first time in 40 years due to lack of interest from local not-for-profit organizations.

Saugeen Shores Program Coordinator Michael Hundt says the beach carnivals are an excellent way to gain exposure and raise funds.

Hundt says there is the potential for a group to raise in excess of 750 dollars at a single event.

Perhaps one of the big misconceptions is the number volunteers needed to operate a beach carnival.

Hundt says as few as eight volunteers are required to operate a successful carnival.

It's relatively cheap too - the cost of running a beach carnival for an evening is 75 dollars with an extra 10 dollars for a lottery license

Not-for-profit organizations interested in operating a beach carnival should contact the Town of Saugeen Shores Department of Community Services.
