It looks like it will be a successful first year for a Memorial Hockey Tournament.
The family and friends of Steve VanEeken have organized a hockey tournament in his memory.
The young man died and left behind a wife and little girl, and Coordinator Carrie Stephenson says they hope to raise money and set up a trust fund for his daughter.
She says they'll also be raising money for the Arran-Elderslie Minor Hockey Association.
Stephenson says there are teams that don't have goalie pads this year that they'd like to donate.
She says they also want to send some kids to hockey camp, and help out those who would like to play but can't afford to pay.
Stephenson says they've been working on the event since September, and they're happy with the turnout.
Thirty-one teams have signed up, and organizers are hoping to make it an annual event.
There divisions include men's 4-on-4 under 35, over 35 and ladies' 5-on-5.
Games will be taking place all weekend at the arenas in Paisley, Chesley and Tara.
There will also be a roast beef dinner for the players on Saturday night.
Stephenson says there will be a dance Saturday night as well at the Chesley Community Centre.
She says it is open to the public, and all of the proceeds will go to their fundraising efforts.
