For Immediate Release
Monday, March 7, 2011
The 2nd annual Fight Back Day with the Owen Sound Attack happened this past Saturday and was another success. Greeted by fans and onlookers, the Attack players lost their locks at the noon hour showcase in front of the Attack ticket booth. The Attack raised $2250 in total and presented their funds to the Canadian Cancer Society, all the money raised will be designated to pediatric cancer.
The Attack game Saturday evening was a sold out game, drawing a large crowd of hockey fans and players from surrounding communities. During the 2nd intermission of the game The Canadian Cancer Society held their 2nd annual Chuck-A-Puck contest and puck purchasers tossed their rubber pucks onto the ice in the hopes of making a score. The prize winners were as follows; Steve Ransom took home first winning pizza for a year from Boston Pizza in Owen Sound, 2nd place went to Maureen Schemitsch who was the lucky winner of an autographed Attack Jersey, Evan Stengel received 3rd place and took home a Peninsula Ford Racing Jacket, 4th place went to Karla Green who won a 6 month fitness membership from the Days Inn in Owen Sound, while Mike Furness who won 5th place received a $200 gift certificate to the Personal Enhancement Centre and in 6th place was VerLyn Ak-Jones who took home a His and Hers Car Wash and Vac from Baywest Toyota.
The total raised from the puck toss was just over $2200 which is being designated to colorectal cancer research. The Canadian Cancer Society choose to donate to Colorectal Cancer because March is Colorectal Cancer month and the Attack will be wearing a special patch on their jersey for the month of March in recognition of their fight against cancer and to support the cause.
In total the FIGHT BACK DAY raised almost $6000 for cancer research.
A special thanks to Jeff Robins from Aveda Main Street, Karen Wark and staff at The Salon and The Owen Sound Attack Hockey Club.
