Women of Distinction

Port Elgin | by Daryl Morris

Fundraiser with comediennes tonight for Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey.

It's shaping up to be a very successful night as the Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey celebrates the 100th annual International Women's Day.

This year's celebration takes place tonight at the CAW Family Education Centre in Port Elgin.

Spokesperson Shannon Drainville says this year will feature two comedians from Yuk Yuk's -- Allyson Smith, and Laurie Elliot, who has been seen on MuchMusic's Video on Demand.

Drainville says this announcement has boosted ticket sales this year, and they're now almost sold out.

She says they hope to sell 250, but the CAW can hold 300 and it would be nice to see that many tickets sold.

The biggest highlight of the night, however, will be the Woman of Distinction award, which is given to a woman from Grey or Bruce.

Drainville says choosing this year's recipient was especially tough, as they received more nominations than they have for any other year.

The International Women's Day Celebration is one of the major fundraisers for the organization.

Tickets are still available by calling the Women's House.

The event runs from 5:30 PM to 9 PM on Friday.
