Women Heroes in Owen Sound

Owen Sound | by Daryl Morris

Three of Canada's women hockey heroes will help raise funds for the Women's Centre.

Three hockey heroes are coming to Owen Sound in support of the Women's Centre Grey & Bruce.

The first woman to be inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame and a five-time world champion, Angela James, will come to town Friday night.

Jayna Hefford, who has won four Olympic medals, and Gillian Apps, who has won two gold medals, will join her.

The three will speak at OSCVI Friday night from 7 PM to 9 PM, and stick around to take pictures and sign autographs afterward.

Tickets are available at the Attack Box Office.

Janice Jackson, the Community Development Coordinator for the Women's Centre, says it's taken her about a year to organize the event, and is hoping to raise a lot of money for the Centre.

She says it's great to see positive female role models stepping forward.

Jackson says Hefford and Apps will be sticking around on Saturday, to be the guest coaches for the girls Ice Hawks squads, who will play two exhibition games.

The games take place from 3 PM until 5 PM at the Bayshore Community Centre, and will be followed by a dinner catered by Joe Tomato's.

The two will also drop the puck at the Attack game Saturday night.

Jackson says tickets can be purchased at Bayshore Physical Therapy.

For 39 dollars, you will get access to all of Friday and Saturday's events.

All of the proceeds raised to go to help the Women's Centre of Grey & Bruce, which is at capacity with 17 residents right now.
