NHL Stars for Rec Centre

Owen Sound | by Manny Paiva

MP Larry Miller is organizing benefit hockey game to raise funds for Rec Centre.

A number of former NHL players and coaches are coming to Owen Sound to help raise money for the Regional Rec Centre.

Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller says the Conservative Hockey Team and Senator Jacques Demers have committed to come to Owen Sound for a hockey game.

It will take place on Saturday September 17th.

Owen Sound Attack owner Paul MacDermid and former Plater Kirk Maltby have already committed to the game.

Miller says he has made contact with several former Maple Leafs and other NHL players and coaches -- and he will announce those names as soon as they commit.

The money raised from the game will go towards the fundraising for the 38.6 million dollar Rec Centre at Victoria Park.

Miller feels the Rec Centre is a worthy cause for the funds because it's a big part of Owen Sound's future.

He says it will not only attract new residents, but also help with preventative health by keeping residents active.

The Regional Rec Centre features two NHL sized rinks, a pair of swimming pools, a running track, gymnasium and more.

There will also be three thousand tickets sold for a draw for two prizes from Air Canada to fly anywhere in the World or in North America.

The game on Saturday September 17th will be held at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

The ticket price has not been set yet -- but Miller says it will not be expensive and they will release those details closer to the date of the game.
