The Municipal Heritage Conservation Award has been given to a brothers team who have shown leadership in restoring and preserving heritage cottages and homes in Saugeen Shores.
Matt and Tim Weichel from Devitt Uttley and Company have practiced their craft for over 20-years.
Heritage committee member Joyce Johnston says they thought about giving the award to a business that gets paid to restore homes however, it was determined the Weichel brothers go above and beyond requirements and have a passion for saving older buildings within the community.
Matt Weichel says the buildings make up the community and if we lose the heritage buildings, we lose a little of the character of the community in the first place.
He says not only should we preserve but new buildings should also fit into the facade of any given community.
He says they're honoured to receive the award.
Weichel did admit they won the award about 15 years ago but it never gets old.
The award was presented to the Weichels at a recent Saugeen Shores town council meeting.
