Scores and Games

The Barrie Colts beat the Brampton Battalion last night, 6-3… not a bad way to start the new year, and the first of 3 straight games.

In the NHL… The Toronto Maple Leafs wasted a 5-2 lead in the 3rd, and had to go all the way to a shootout… but they did edge St. Louis 6-5. Mikhail Grabovski had the highlight of the night during the shootout, with his spin-o-rama while cutting across the top of the crease before beating goalie Ty Conklin. Tyler Bozak netted the winner with a more conventional wrist shot.

The Canadiens beat the Pens 2-1, without Pittsburgh’s Captain Sidney Crosby. He returned to Pittsburgh prior to the game and will be out at least a week with a mild concussion.

The Edmonton Oilers broke a 7-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders. The Oilers say rookie winger Jordan Eberle had an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday. He was already expected to be out 2-to-3 weeks with an ankle injury.

The Philadelphia Flyers doubled New Jersey 4-2.

The Phoenix Coyotes beat Colorado 2-0.

It was Minnesota 3-1 over Boston.  The Wild have never lost in Boston, and they are 9-and-2 against the Original Six franchise since joining the N-H-L in 2000.

2 Collingwood teams are at the Silver Stick Finals in Pelham today. The Mcqueen Vue Paving Atom A-E squad is 2-and-oh so far, and play Chatham this morning at 10:30. The Collingwood Blackhawks Midgets have lost 1 game and tied the other. They begin playing Niagara-on-the-Lake at about this time.

And… Jonathan Byrd and Carl Petterson are the first-round leaders at the opening event of the P-G-A Tour season. They had a 7-under 66 for the lead at the winners-only Tournament of Champions. Ben Crane is one shot back.
