Police Ready for the Long Weekend

Regional
by Bayshore News Staff

Another Holiday weekend, and once again area OPP officers are putting out the word for people to be safe on the highways in the region.

Police remind motorists and other outdoor enthusiasts they will be focusing on the so called  big three causes of injury on the roads, waterways and trails.

They are aggressive driving, drinking and driving and improper use of seatbelts, restraints and flotation devices.

Police say that drinking and driving continues to be a problem and is the leading criminal cause of death in the Province.

There will be numerous RIDE programs operating this holiday weekend throughout the region.

During the Canada Day long weekend, 16 people lost their lives on highways, trails and waterways.

The OPP say they will be doubling their efforts to try and make sure this is a safe Civic Holiday long weekend.
