Arrest Made in Park Mugging
by Jim Birchard Owen Sound Police have now made an arrest in connection with an assault on a man and female companion that occurred in Harrison Park on Tuesday night. Owen Sound Police Inspector Stephen MacKinnon says what initially appeared to be a random act of violence was anything but. He says the female and male victim had just become friends on Facebook. Tuesday afternoon they arranged to meet in Harrison park that evening. Unknown to the male victim the woman had misrepresented her age as being older, and also had a boyfriend. MacKinnon says the boyfriend found out about the meeting and traveled from Walkerton to Owen Sound to confront the man. He says as a result of a joint investigation with Walkerton OPP, the 17 year old female and her 19 year old boyfriend have been charged with one count each of robbery and assault. The victims wallet and bracelet have not been recovered. MacKinnon says there is an important lesson here. He says people should be very aware of just who they are talking to on these social networks, because you never really know who you are talking to, unless you know the individual personally. MacKinnon says people need to be very careful when using facebook, twitter or msn. Owen Sound , 97.9 The Beach, Port Elgin |
