A former Owen Sound mayor and city councillor has passed away.
Rick Beaney died at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital on June 30 at the age of 66.
Beaney was a city councillor from 1993-2001. He was appointed mayor of Owen Sound in August 2001 and served in the post until 2003 when he was defeated in an election.
“On behalf of my council colleagues, staff and the residents of the city, I offer my condolences to his wife Kerry Anne, family members and friends,” says Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy in a statement. " Mr. Beaney was dedicated to the growth of this city and was primarily responsible for bringing NuComm to town, which provided 200 jobs for more than 20 years. He will be remembered for his passion, and commitment to serving the residents of Owen Sound."
The city plans to lower the flags at City Hall to half-mast on July 9 to honour Beaney.
